My Teaching Philosophy

My name is Emma Montori and I'm a teacher in the Calgary Catholic School District. I have a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Bachelor of Music Degree from University of Lethbridge. I decided to become an educator when I was teaching private music lessons and through being an instructor at Storybook Theater. I loved interacting with children, sharing my passion for music with them, and seeing the “light bulb” moment when they learned something new. My interests and hobbies outside of school are cooking, traveling, going to hockey games, reading, and spending time with my family.

I'm a life-long learner, always trying to better myself and my pedagogy to ensure student success. My goal is to be a Champion for students. Throughout my career I have been committed to fostering a passion and love for music, the arts, and academic growth in students of all ages. My teaching philosophy revolves around creating engaging, inclusive, and dynamic learning environments, where all students feel empowered to explore their creativity, take measured educational risks, and develop essential skills not only as musicians, but as people.

I am a firm believer that music education is essential for students' social-emotional learning. Music education provides students with a powerful medium for self-expression, emotional regulation, and collaboration. Through music, students develop critical life skills such as perseverance, patience (turn taking), empathy, and teamwork, which are vital for their overall well-being and success. I believe that a well-rounded music program fosters a sense of belonging and community, helping students build confidence and resilience in a supportive and creative environment. The integration of music education within the school curriculum ensures that all students, regardless of background or circumstance, have access to these invaluable benefits.

For many students, access to music education outside of school is not a possibility due to financial or logistical barriers. This makes it even more critical to maintain strong school music programs that provide equitable opportunities for all students to engage with and benefit from music education. Schools play a fundamental role in ensuring that every child has the chance to develop their musical abilities and experience the joy and enrichment that music brings. By investing and creating high-quality music programs, we can create inclusive educational experiences that will foster a lifelong appreciation for music and the arts.

Academic Achievements
